It's hard to believe the first month of school has come and gone! We have settled into a great routine. Here are a few things coming up and a note from Ms. Grant about Social Studies.
And a note from Ms. Grant about Social Studies: We've been working diligently learning about and understanding How Social Scientist’s Interpret the Past and will be moving on later next week to the Early Hominids and the Capabilities that Helped Them Survive. Concurrently, we discuss current events that are often sparked by CNN 10 (www.cnn10.com), a wonderful online tool that has encouraged age appropriate conversations about both national and international news. I am also reading aloud a wonderful book to students called Refugee by Alan Gratz. It focuses on three children fleeing their homelands; Joseph in 1939 Germany, Isabel in 1994 Cuba and Mahmoud in 2015 Syria. It successfully brings light to the plight of immigrants who search for safety and freedom. I hope you will ask your children about the book with the hope that it will spark interesting conversation at home as well. To login: www.teachtci.com Enter Mrs. Sugrue's email address (this will always be necessary) [email protected] Next, enter student's regular CPS username followed by student's CPS password Happy Friday! Thank you to everyone who was able to come to our open house last evening. We had a great turnout and I hope it was helpful to hear about all the great things your child will be doing this year! Coonley is going to welcome author Jennifer Nielsen next week! All 5th and 6th graders will have the opportunity to meet and listen to her story on Thursday, September 21. If anyone is interested in a signed and personalized copy of her books, orders are due by Friday, September 15th. You can used the order form attached below.
Open House for 5th Grade is this Thursday, September 14th from 6:00pm - 7:00pm. Room 211 parents will follow their child's schedule:
