Atwood Update: One thing is for sure...these kids are excited for ATWOOD!! We went over the bus, packing, medicine, money, showering, food, you name it we talked about it! On Thursday, students are to arrive to school at normal time. If they would like to come a bit before to get their stuff settled, that is fine. I will be in our designated area starting at 8:10 am. Students are to drop their bags off near the gym. I will be there to check for 3 things:
* All bags, sleeping bags, pillow are labeled with a name (I will have tape/marker) * All medicines that are brought must be turned into me * Students can turn their money into me if they would like me to hold onto it until the store (they are responsible for their money if they choose to hold onto it) Students are to bring a pillow and a sleeping bag or sheet/blanket. Students are welcome to bring a small snack for the bus ride there, but all left over food will be collected once we arrive. They will not need a snack on the way back because we will be eating lunch before we depart. They can bring things like notebooks, books, cards, or coloring books for the bus ride as well. Like stated in the registration form, no electronics are allowed (cameras are permitted). Students will have an opportunity to shower at night, but it is not mandatory. Please discuss with them showering and pack the necessary items. Please make sure a jacket of some kind comes with them, right now it looks like it will be around 50 with a chance of rain. If they do not have a rain coat, a poncho on top may be a good option. Two pairs of shoes are recommended in case one pair gets wet the first day. The packing list supplied by Atwood is a great resource! Please email me with any questions. I will send a mass email on Thursday to all parents once we have arrived and then send another email when we depart from Atwood on Friday. Atwood, here we come!

5th grade PARCC testing begins tomorrow. We will be taking one test each day. Tuesday through Thursday, the 5th graders will be tested in Reading. Friday - Wednesday, the 5th graders will take the Math portion of the test. All test are taken on the computer.
Computer Science Projects
The 5th grades classes are participating in a Computer Science Pilot Program through CPS. Students will be identifying a problem in their community, researching that problem and coming up with possible solutions. We will share our research findings with all of you in early May. As a part of this program, students will be working with two programs, Yahki and MME MOE. Yahki is a tool that will help the students collect and organize their research, receive feedback from CPS teachers, students and administrators and view other students' work on this project. MME MOE is a reflective tool where students can track their progress with this project. Information on MME MOE will be shared with me, so that I may address concerns students may have. This is an on going process. No firm due dates have been set, but once they are, I will let you know. |
