Coonley offers a Summer Reading Challenge for the summer. Each student receives our "Coonley Summer Reading Challenge" chart at the end of the school year. 5th grade will be MAP testing the first week of June. Room 211 will test for Reading on Monday, June 3 and for Math on Wednesday, June 5.

Next week the Sexual Health Education program will begin in 5th grade. There will be an informational session Friday morning,5/24 at 8 am in room 217 for any parents that are interested in discussing the Sexual Education Curriculum that will be used in class. Please let me know if you have any questions. Robert Crown will be providing their presentation on May 30th at school. The cost of the session is $10 per child. Here are some important reminders and updates: * Students should be conducting their science fair experiment in the next 2 weeks. * Data and Conclusion are due on Google Classroom by May 24th * Oriental Institute field trip on Thursday, May 16th * Atwood field trip on Monday, May 20th ( I will post a more detailed message on packing and schedule later this week) * Young Author's night is May 21st * Sexual Health Unit will begin May 30th. A letter/permission slip will come home this week and there will be a parent information session the week prior to beginning the unit We have two exciting field trips in the next couple weeks.

Welcome Back from Spring Break! It was a great week to refresh and relax and prepare for the fourth quarter!

In Social Studies class on Wednesday (212/211) and Thursday (214/217), students will be assessed on their understanding of Geography and the Early Settlements of India. A review has been posted to Google Classroom and will be gone over in class prior to the test. No School on Friday (4/5) because it is the end of the third quarter. The 5th grade Ukulele Performance will be 9:00 am on Friday, April 12th. We hope you can come and see the hard work our students have made with the ukuleles! Our field trip to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra on Friday has been cancelled due to the musicians' strike. We will have a normal school day on Friday!

Next week, there will be a science test on our Modeling Matter Unit. We will spend time reviewing in class and students will receive a study guide in the beginning of the week. Students are also to review their unit workbook. The science test will be on Thursday, March 28th. Ukulele Performance: O ur ukulele performance will be Friday, April 12th at 9AM. We hope you will join us! CSO Field Trip: Our field trip to the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, scheduled for March 29th, may be cancelled because the musicians are on strike. We should know early in the week. Monday, March 25th is out final day of IAR testing. Our schedule will return to normal beginning Tuesday. Help your child get adequate rest and eat breakfast (at home or school) before testing. |
